Best Pals Pet Health Tips

An ounce of prevention:

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' truly applies to our pet family members.

  1. Prevent disease - Ensure your dogs and cats are protected from contagious disease by beginning vaccinations at 6 weeks of age and boostering them yearly. Heartworm and parasite prevention begins at 6 weeks also. That's right, cats can get deadly heartworms, too, especially if they spend time outside!

  2. Speaking of outside, costly and deadly injuries can be avoided by keeping pets close and observed with leashes or fences and avoiding access to roads.

  3. We're entering into heat injury season with the higher humidity and warmer conditions.

  4. It doesn't take long for a furry animal to overheat, especially if they are a flat-faced breed such as English Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Pekinese, Himalayan or Persian.

  5. Avoid heavy exertion in the heat of day and provide plenty of water/ electrolytes and ability to escape from the heat into shade or air conditioning.

  6. 3. Snakes hide in overgrown and undisturbed areas. Avoid areas of high grass and deadfall, unless you know who may already be there. Not all snakes are a threat, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.
